Melody Tapia is a landscape designer based in Massachusetts. Her mission as a designer is to provide holistic landscapes for all ages and contribute to the research of evidence-based design in therapeutic gardens through pre and post-occupancy evaluations. One of her latest projects include the research and design for a therapeutic garden in a hospital psychiatric unit in San Diego, CA.
Melody’s passion for therapeutic garden design derives from her interest in caring for the sick. After dealing with pain from disease and visiting others at the hospital, she encountered the high degrees of vulnerability one experiences. Realizing that illness strips the core of our souls with grief and sadness made her pursue the study of therapeutic garden design. Her master’s project was the design of a hospice garden in Marquette, MI.
Melody holds associate degrees in business administration and visual art from Holyoke Community College, a bachelor of science in environmental design, and a master’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
